KITE PROJECT due AFTER Spring Break -- March 21 and 22. Videos (30% of project grade) must be uploaded before the deadline. All work must be shown to get full credit.
For this project, you will be constructing a kite that has the true properties of a geometric kite. Construction materials may include tissue paper, lightweight pieces of wood and/or straws, strings or any other useful materials that you wish to use. A kite constructed from an actual kit cannot be used for this project. The kite design and construction must be created from scratch. With the original design and construction, your kite will also be judged on its “fly ability”. We will actually be going outside on Kite Day and flying our kites. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing, and come to class with all completed paper work; bring your kite. To receive credit for this project, you must bring your kite to school, regardless of what shape it may be in. The perimeter of your kite must be at least 6ft or 72 inches.
· KITE WORKSHEET
Make sure to have filled out your worksheet completely before you come to class on Kite Day. I will be looking for the labeled measurements of your kite, including all sides, diagonals and angle measures. I will also be looking for:
§ the perimeter of your kite (show work)
§ a list of the properties that represent your kite (at least 3)
§ a detailed account of the materials used
§ approximate time that you spent making your kite
You can earn 10 bonus points if you find the area of your kite (show work).
· THE KITE
In addition to your completed kite worksheet, you must also bring your kite complete with string upload a video of you flying the kite so that you can show me that it flies. In case there is no wind, your kite breaks, etc., you will want to have a picture of you flying your kite, along with a signed note from a parent stating the day and time that your kite was flown in the picture. You may e-mail the picture if you would like, but please check with me to make sure that I have received it. Please do not bring your camera or cell phone to school and show me. You must either have a copy of the actual picture or e-mail it to me.
To upload a video, click on the “Upload” button on the video page (must be logged in). Fill in the information (you can either upload from your computer or embed a youtube link).
